Stop reinventing the wheel. The web was doing just fine before your bloated frameworks crawled out of the sewer.

Math and Science in the kitchen

Our microwave gave out a few months ago. More specifically, the internal light flashed and it made THROMB MOAM sounds and a red warning light came on if we try to use it. I figure it's time. The new one has 2 sound levels: LOUD and off (as opposed to our toaster oven which has 3: LOUD, reasonable, and off). It turns out that "off" is fine for the microwave.

A London bus stop

Feels weird to news here, but we just released a demo for the game I've been working on for 6.5 years, so news I must:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1043810/Tactical_Breach_Wizards/

Boosts appreciated!

Steamで30% OFF:Tactical Breach Wizards

In Tactical Breach Wizards, you lead a team of renegade wizards in kevlar through turn-based battles to unravel a modern conspiracy plot. Combine their unique spells in clever ways, or rewind time to try every crazy plan you can think of to punch a Traffic Warlock through a 4th story window.

I'm a little sad that the Anderson's Pea Soup Restaurant "down the way" (about 40 minutes) is closing:

https://www.latimes.com/food/story/2024-01-10/buellton-split-pea-andersens-closes-redevelopment

For those not familiar, it's been something of a central coast icon since the 70s. Ellyn and I had dinner there a few months ago and it was.. pretty tired looking. So it's not surprising. But still - end of an era.

Split Pea Andersen in Buellton closes for redevelopment

The beloved roadside destination famed for its soup and Danish dining hall quietly shuttered but could return.

@tenderlove We're in the process of updating to ruby 3.2 and I was wondering which of our objects is out of shape. I've seen a couple of your talks about ruby shapes and how to make objects more shapely - and I was wondering if there is a gem that will tell me which instances/classes are not good shape citizens. And if such a gem does not exist and would be easy, I vote for the name pe_teacher or jazzercise_instructor.
Wow. Shall we count the number of things they're doing wrong?
@tenderlove I'm only about 1/5 through, but I'm recommending Starter Villain by John Scalzi. 2 reasons:
# I imagine that the cover is what you might look like if you dressed up and took off your human mask.
# I've heard you talk about crappy science and piss poor data (at various railsconfs), so I think the subject matter might appeal.
Hmph. I want linking to a blog to do something a little better in mastadon.
I have changed my tune

When I’m in the kitchen doing the dishes or making dinner or whatever, I don’t hum a little tune. Yodoh doh-doh dodee doh… Some other times as well, but mostly while doing kitchen…
