Could only avoid feeling heartbreak for so long
for the lawyers on here: now that deities are legal entities, can they be named as co-conspirators the next time someone lynches a person in their name? asking for a friend

Hello, I'm Saumya. I am an aspiring feminist historian interested in the colonial prison regime in India. My background is in gender & human rights research & advocacy. I'm trying to develop a network for critical thinking around detention & solidarity w/ those working on detention (@detsolnet on the birdsite).

Other than my nerd-qualifications, I <3 fiction, coffee, wine & my sense of humour has been described as dry af.

And then you find out about caste, and then you see increasing militancy and violence and then you see how completely in denial the Hindus are about how their religion is as flawed and problematic as the ones they assert superiority over. And then you see the majoritarian political forces solidify this and inflict unabashed violence and yet the strange idea that Hinduism is a soft, accepting ideology persists!
It’s strange to have grown up listening to a narrative of Hinduism as some sort of open, non-rigid, fluid pantheistic religious belief system while seeing it also play out as quite the opposite. I remember hearing quite often ‘Hinduism isn’t a religion, it’s a way of life’ and other such spiritual pleasantries.

Based on the amazingly detailed, and, I daresay, extremely courageous, reports by Niranjan Takle in The Caravan magazine (@vinod) , a half-decent Supreme Court would have ordered an investigation into the matter.

There was SO much material to go by.

But the subject was too hot to touch.

India has let down Judge Loya.

He is one of my biggest modern heroes. I salute him for his integrity.

What a mockery of democracy.
