For a long time, when I'd read a comic with Lex Luthor in it, and he'd be... I dunno, conspiring with a guy who's super power is that he is mediocre at riddles, and maybe Solomon Grundy or someone like that, in order to launch their army of poison turtles into Metropolis, I'd scoff and say, "it's unrealistic that the world's richest man would waste his time and money on something that's only going to showcase to the world how incompetent he is."

I owe DC comics an apology.

It seems like Mastodon is inbetween the "laugh at you" and "fight you" phase. Some of the FUD I see coming from some personalities on twitter about mastodon is unreal.
I chose mastodon.social because it felt like the default at the time. How easy is it to move between servers? Do I basically have to start over?

Twitter was special. But it's time to leave

Tweets were always short-lived. Turns out Twitter was too.

I’ll give everyone a pass tonight but going forward I will block anyone who continuously posts tweets from the fat orange bastard.

An Incredible Day In Internet History

It started with the Twitter lockout. 10,000 new users per hour. A QUARTER MILLION people migrated to Mastodon in one day. The servers struggled. Remarkably, admins all over the world built up capacity in real time. New users were patient. The system held.

It's running better now. There will be more hard days ahead, but people powered social media has arrived.

Wow, switching accounts has not gone smoothly. I had 683 followers on my .social account; I currently have 263. I was following 205 accounts; now 173.

I know that some of that is due to this instance not being federated with everyone and some dormant accounts (e.g. people from my very old instance are in the following_accounts CSV). And I had to upload that CSV twice to get to this point. I don't see a way to initiate a second attempt at porting followers.

Anyone else had this experience?
