What about our new intelligent machines? I know you are talking about "people" in Lena and Driver, but I don't think we are far away from some sort "almost cognisant" machine- and that will be replicated with a docker container...
- ok, maybe I'm just recently spooked by ChatGPT3- but that thing is good- more coherent than most people I know.

Mr Stross, dear chap.
Perhaps consider twitter as dead and buried. Folks may create fake accounts, but that is just the death-throes of a dying beast, soon to be corpse in the Astral plane.
The fake accounts will just be one more reason why folks will flee the platform- you wouldn't fret over someone impersonating you on Myspace or Voat. Rip off the bandage and make @cstross your official voice.

And welcome to the fediverse. It is more githzerai than githyanki

a fan since FiendFolio in the 1980's

@ravirockks great. I mean, I want to boot alternate OS'es and I don't trust MS to get it right. But yes, vapour-ware by some definition, hardware but still in-effective. And probably folks relying on it. (I wouldn't, ever, no matter the defaults)
@gardiner_bryant come to singapore- enjoy the infra.
I mean, the place can be dull and I'm sure younger me would hate the fact that one party has been in power for 60 years, but if you squint it's not that different to a 2 party system.
Only thing SG doesn't do well is cycling- there are park interconnectors (ie dedicated cycling tracks island-wide) but drivers think the road are only for cars and trucks.. which makes it deadly when the tracks end
@pluralistic thanks. -muses how and where to attach.. :)

Hey Cory, great stuff, thanks for describing that.. for someone who is always writing little bits of stuff but never really publishes.. what licence would you advise for free-to-use rules, lore? I'd like to be acknowledged if folks copy, but I'm happy for them to copy.

On the gaming side, I haven't considered my security /forensic work

Honestly, 1990's me would tell you " it is a way of ensuring those with credentials from Microsoft are in demand and that MS gets folks doing it's courses. It's complexity and failure by design"
Now I think it was just cruddy/flawed and not by design.

To quote my buddy Prasanna as we both looked at foolish/insecure things done in prod

"Permanent Employment!"

I'm still crying, can't tell if it's stress or joy

This was private training provided only to the security team at the company I work for, directly by microsoft, as part of a deal to get us to use more of their cloud. (I think a dozen of us did the training)
And it still amounted to teaching bad habits mixed with advertising- the trainer was a good guy, knew his stuff. A security person's security person . But the course content... I couldn't believe it
