There's enough stuff in this Dungeon Crawl Classics Dying Earth Kickstarter to keep me gaming until the box changes genres from "far future fantasy" to "modern."
Party at the Tractor Works: early on, then some fun with the prisoner rules, and then how it ended. #advancedsquadleader
I enjoy some of the bite-sized standard scenarios in the Next War series. In Poland, there’s a two-turn “Siege Of Warsaw” confined to a three-hex radius around Warsaw. The victory conditions prompted me, as Allies, to bunker up in Warsaw proper and let the Russians spend their energies on the suburbs. That looks pretty unbeatable, unless I misread the scenario setup…. #hexesforever
Finally, I have Next War: Poland 2e clipped and ready to go. First, we fight over the Suwalki Gap. #hexesforever

Solid, solid mail day.

Tomorrow, Next War: Poland arrives from GMT, so my table will be tied up with that for a week or two. I wanted to squeeze in a game of #advancedsquadleader first, so I played S51 “Enter The Young” from SK EP1. Starting to say things like, “I wish I could bypass this building,” so I suspect it’s not long before I play the full rules more often… #hexesforever
I’m not quite as old as this comic from 1908, but today does seem like a dream….

Every now and again I try to unearth the “Designer’s Edition”’of OGRE (aka the “it seemed like a good idea at the time” or the “boy, this really escalated fast” edition). I played the classic Smash the CP scenario using the solo rules from the Ogre Book.

Still a cracking good game. Pulled out a tense win.

Next: pondering how and if I should repackage this beast into a more portable form…

Kicking off 2023 with a game of #advancedsquadleader Starter Kit Expansion #2. Scenario S75 “They Always Returned” takes us to 1937 Shanghai, and my first battle using Chinese forces. The SSRs give the Chinese defensive air support that should work, according to the dice odds, only 25% of the time. In this match, it worked every time. Guess who won. (Hint: not the Japanese.) #hexesforever
My Christmas game gift to my wife is the new DOG PARK, a light and colorful game that will seem familiar to fans of Wingspan. This one is a simpler game, but still very pleasant.
