@kornel, but that’s what I mean by JPEG XL being optimal through the entire image pipeline. Working with the images locally may require lossless before publishing to the web. It’s great that one format handles it all.

But there are lots of times when lossless is what you’re after. I just had to optimize 250 logos for a client for their website (their clients). 60% SVG, the rest PNGs. Lossless conversion to WebP saves ~60% from PNG. JXL is closer to ~80%. AVIF is only ~45%.

@jaffathecake Mostly covered here already, but a few things AVIF doesn't have: best-of-breed lossless (including non-photographic images like logos when you don't have a vector), encoding speed, high max bit depths, very large max image size, progressive decoding, generational loss resilience, JPEG recompression… The JPEG XL spec was well conceived to grow into the future.
@jaffathecake Unlike aspects of WebP & AVIF, JPEG XL is incredibly well thought out, and can be used in every stage of the image pipeline – RAW camera data through optimized web delivery.
@siracusa I guess it’s the way I’m thinking about it. There are a few thousand files found, with the vast majority I don’t want to touch, but as I’m going through, I just want to pick off the ones I do want to reclaim from that window. You could definitely do it with the checkbox too…
@siracusa In Hyperspace, I would love to be able to right click on a file in the Review Files view and say ā€œReclaim nowā€. I’m getting to the crumbs of what I actually want to reclaim, so this would be easier.
That can’t be good!
A new poll finding voters think Donald Trump is a centrist should be a wake-up call for the news media

The news media isn't doing its job

@defcon It actually is. Just not on Chrome, and there is a whole story there…
@jensimmons I know this isn’t exactly your domain, but with Safari's support for the OKLCH color system (and its cousins), what are the chances we’ll see an updated color picker in the OS? Anyone you can poke?
@marcoarment check to see if your SD card that went bad is fake. One I had that I thought went bad was actually a 32GB card masquerading as a 512GB one. Name brand, bought from Amazon. Took me years to figure out. Was in a Switch and I just thought Ninento were terrible at delivering updates. F3 is the software to test in a Mac.
