@Voline @ryanbooker @siracusa I don’t know how authentic the “period drama Japanese” is in normal Japanese shows, but the Japanese sounded similar to that. It might just be some archaic forms thrown in, but probably archaic forms that modern Japanese viewers recognise as “old-timey samurai and emperor class language”.

Note that every year NHK has a one-episode-per-week period drama. There is a standard for this, regardless of how historically correct it is.
