We are so screwed.

"In a way, then, America has become one big bet on AI. Outside of the AI plays, even European stock markets have been outperforming the US this decade, and now that gap is starting to spread. So far in 2025, every major sector from utilities and industrials to healthcare and banks has fared better in the rest of the world than in the US.

What that suggests is that AI better deliver for the US, or its economy and markets will lose the one leg they are now standing on."

I really like the fact that Letterboxd has both a five star rating system and a separate "like" (heart) option for rating films. This captures the reality that you might think one film only deserves two stars, but still enjoy it, while another film might deserve four stars even though you didn't.
The Penguin: alternative history, or just confused about history?

What Really Happened on Thanksgiving I lightly edited excerpt from @charlescmann.bsky.social's wonderful book, 1491. If you haven't read that, or 1493 yet, I highly recommend both! Originally posted by @alexgolub.bsky.social ten years ago. #anthrosky #indigisky #historysky

Author of "1491, "1493," and, most recently, "The Wizard and the Prophet." Working, inefficiently, on another book. The background image is pretty old by now, but I like the pig. The avatar photo is only a couple years old, though, so that's something.

What you don't realize as a college student is that, for each amazing text your prof assigned you, they have read 20 other texts that were terribly dull. So, if you choose a career in academia because of all the fun stuff, just remember that you'll have to read the boring stuff as well!
