Guess the letter. From a 17th-century German book on the art of writing. A great range of different styles are represented seemingly increasing in complexity, and also illegibility, as the book goes on: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/the-proper-art-of-writing-1655
Even though the astronomical beginning of summer is still a few days off, for me an important marker of the season is always the first day that the red poppies in our front garden suddenly bloom. 🙂
@zachleat new captchas just dropped
(Which also means too far away to get a photo for y’all. Sorry. Besides, if I open the screen door, she’ll undoubtedly hear and retreat back to the woods.)

In 2022 we put up a show of covers by Eric Carle made before he was famous for hungry caterpillars. We were just cataloguing this magazine, wondering if we should price it at $5 or $6. And then we noticed Eric Carle’s signature. We are keeping it for ourselves. It will live in a box in the basement until you come ask to see it or rent the exhibition for your school or graphic design bookstore.
