My Favourite Theatre of 2022 (and 2020/21)

In 2020 and 2021, I relished any and all theatre I got to see because shows were so few and far between. I think I only saw ten shows in t...

Shakespeare Aliens | Adelaide Fringe

Oh, for a muse of firepower. That would rise to the brightest heaven of adaptation! Shakespeare Aliens is the classic feminist science-fiction film on stage, remounted as if it is a history play from William Shakespeare. A story of soldiers, war, dreams, nightmares, complex human machinations and ...

My new play, TURN TURN TURN, was announced today as part of Theatre Works' 2023 season and I'm so excited to share it with Melbourne audiences.

I started writing TURN, TURN, TURN in 2020, though the opening image of two people sitting in a field against the backdrop of a red sky had been with me for years. They are sitting in a field, waiting for a siren to blast. The start of a race, a race from one planet to the next. Dreaming of making a brand new world.

But how can you make a better world, if you take the baggage of the old world along with you?

I continued to write this through the various lockdowns in 2021. It's been through several readers and it's one of the best things I've ever written.

Turn, Turn, Turn

eb89616f-8d4f-456d-93da-e91fb09e0270Far in the future, another planet is dying. The next great migration is happening; thousands of people racing from one world to the next. On an old freighter, destined to become their future home, four individuals are thrown together. Struggling with nostalgia for Earth Seven, the crew must decide how much they will risk to get to the next world first. Not all of them are happy about what they’ve left behind, or the secrets they carry with them. Is their nostalgia for the old world an anchor? Or can they work together to free themselves of tradition and fly fast and free to the future that awaits them all?
