Oh. Oh wow. That's...that's a lot of cicadas. Damn.

How weird does the US get on armed service holidays? An example of what a fried chicken sandwich fast foot chain does each Memorial Day. The framed text reads:

"The table is round- to show our everlasting concern. The tablecloth is white- symbolizing the purity of their motives when answering the call to serve. The single rose- reminds us of the lives of these Americans…and the loved ones and friends who keep the faith, waiting for answers. The yellow ribbon- symbolizes our continued uncertainty, hope for their return and determination to account for them. A slice of lemon- reminds us of their bitter fate, captured or missing in a foreign land. A pinch of salt- symbolizes the tears of our missing and their families. The flickering candle- reflects our hope for their return. The bound text- is a book of faith to represent the strength gained through devotion to sustain those lost from our country. The glass is inverted- to symbolize their inability to share a toast. The chair is empty- they are missing."

Finally, a Chicago furry event. I think I'm obligated to go. Now -- how to suit at this thing...
It’s so out of control here I have to arm myself before going outside. #cicadas #cicadas2024 #insecttakeover #scream #fuck #screamfuck
Cookie Crisp Wolf is hanging out with…with, uh, a really emo crowd now or something I guess?
This was the future that was promised and taken from us. A beautiful mix of analog in a digital world. Ah, what could have been.
All the fluff.

"It is, indeed, marvelous. An irony-free zone where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. Where everybody regardless of race, creed, color, or inebriation is welcomed. Its warm, yellow glow a beacon of hope and salvation inviting the hungry, the lost, the seriously hammered all across the south to come inside. A place of safety and nourishment. It never closes. It is always, always faithful. Always there, for you."

I'm still tickled this was a thing at #fwa

And I so, so miss Bourdain.

And suddenly…they’re here. Like someone flipped a switch overnight — they’re everywhere. No screaming yet, though.

Insectivore birds out there right now are having a blast.
