@LaMontagneLab -- this is supposed to be tallest Norway spruce: 62.3 m. On private land in Slovenia.
@DovciakLab clockwise from upper left: Ceanothus (hard to say which sp); Arctostaphylos (again, can't say what sp); Umbellularia californica; Fremontodendron californicum. Nice to see that the chaparral is in bloom!
@benlockwood This is very interesting, but I wonder how generalizable; their 3-D diagrams of biggest trees look radically different in geometry (lots of big, low branches/multiple trunks - they look open-grown?) from big trees in old-growth northern hardwood in northeastern U.S. But I'd agree that allometric estimators for very large trees are questionable.

Small research grants are available, and researchers have access to a large (ca. 10K ha) natural area with extensive old-growth forest and a variety of unusual habitats.
