@benlockwood This is very interesting, but I wonder how generalizable; their 3-D diagrams of biggest trees look radically different in geometry (lots of big, low branches/multiple trunks - they look open-grown?) from big trees in old-growth northern hardwood in northeastern U.S. But I'd agree that allometric estimators for very large trees are questionable.
