Friends and I have been planning an upcoming get together for over a year now. Slowly but steadily, all the other child free folks have backed out. Not that kids can’t be fun, but spending a long weekend centered around the needs of 7 small children is not what I signed up for. We may be doing our own thing considerably more than originally planned.

Layoff/redundancy articles should follow this format:

[Company], which had revenues of [amount] in the last four quarters, announced layoffs today. [CEO], who makes [salary], announced [count] would be laid off, approximately [percent] of [CEO's] annual benefit package.

The Queen is back.

Reign are again wearing the👑

There's slightly new colors with the classic name. But that gold crown... that's 😘

One last time #OLReign
Now and forward #ReignFC

@grammargirl Yep. My coworkers are always shocked when I explain that we need to simplify some public content because of this.
@paulmcaleer Yeah the reaction this week among my design teams was pretty universally, “Oh good, they won’t be able to kill it like they’ve done to every other design tool they ever acquired.”

(You do you! But this is how to opt out.)

ETA: They're mid-rollout and I don't think they've said which regions and tiers will eventually be affected, YMMV

“Do I really need to wear a mask forever in a hospital or doctor's office?!?” is the new...

“Do I really have to wear a seatbelt for every car trip, no matter how short?”

or

“Do I really have to stop smoking in my own office at work?!?”

or

“Do I really have to stop drinking the water from the Broad Street pump?”

No one ever welcomes new rules and practices that keep us safe. They always reject them--until they stop and adopt the sensible rules. #COVID19

Recent weeks have seen a sizable uptick in the number of phishing scams targeting U.S. Postal Service (USPS) customers. Here’s a look at an extensive SMS phishing operation that tries to steal personal and financial data by spoofing the USPS, as well as postal services in at least a dozen other countries.

I like to show my work, and went pretty far down the rabbit hole with this one:

Phishers Spoof USPS, 12 Other Natl’ Postal Services – Krebs on Security

If you’re doing US-based events for women in tech, especially if your events are NB and trans-inclusive, you need to be paying a whole lot more attention to security than most events do. Get some paranoid infosec women and a real physical security presence. Safety planning right now should make everyone sweat. And don’t do events in states where your attendees are exposed to legal and medical harm. 🤦🏻

ETA: This went wide enough that I’m into the long tail of bad replies, muting now. <3

Shout out to the Futility Closet podcast for being the best thing I found to listen to during a couple weeks on visual rest.

Podcast - Futility Closet

From March 2014 to November 2021, my wife Sharon and I hosted a weekly podcast featuring “forgotten stories from the pages of history” — surprising and curious tales from the past. We’re no longer producing new episodes, but all the old ones are still available — you can use the streaming players below or subscribe on Google Podcasts, on Apple Podcasts, or via the RSS feed at https://futilitycloset.libsyn.com/rss. Thanks for listening!
