Sacrilegious as this may be, it is hard not to see the problems with Mastodon's federated division of its userbase, especially given the self-categorisation required on sign-up (forcing echo chambers that society could really do without these days).

Maybe Musk will annoy Twitter folk enough to force them through anything. More likely, others e.g. the bluesky folk, will give people an easier alternative in time.

Main problem with Mastodon is that it's userbase isn't big enough to support the model it want to operate.

Everything else e.g. no comment RTing is fixable.

This is pretty damming, keeping in mind how bloody awful defamation law is in the UK for those involved.
