Northern Lights from the Columbia River Gorge - Lemmy.World
A cellphone shot of the gorgeous aurora tonight. It wasn’t quite this dramatic
to the naked eye, but this is actually pretty representative of what we could
see. I have a bunch of other pics too but I’m sure there will be pics everywhere
tomorrow from better photographers.

Strawberry Shortcake hash rosin batter by Happy Cabbage 🍓🍰 - Lemmy.world
Had another “flavor swap” sesh with a buddy tonight and despite some other
really tasty treats (including Banana Punch #1 live rosin by Decibel - one of my
absolute favorites), the Strawberry Shortcake rosin he brought stole the show.
I’m not typically a big fan of strawberry strains, which is part of why it’s
such a standout rosin. The smell is strong and immediate strawberry candy - like
those little hard candies with the strawberry print wrapper and soft jelly
inside - and the taste when dabbed is pretty much the same (just less intense
and more weedy). It’s easily the tastiest strawberry strain I’ve tried, and
since the Banana Punch #1 sold out before I could get some, I may have to get
some of this instead.

2nd suspected heat death reported in Multnomah County as temps continue to soar

2nd suspected heat death reported in Multnomah County as temps continue to soar - Lemmy.world
“PORTLAND, Ore. — Multnomah County is investigating a second suspected heat
death as a heat wave continues to push temperatures into the triple-digit range.
A Portland-area hospital reported the death Tuesday when temperatures in the
city soared to 102. The county did not specify how the person arrived at the
hospital. This is the second suspected heat death related to the mid-August heat
wave. The first involved a person found dead in Southeast Portland on Monday.
The county medical examiner’s office is working to confirm whether the cause of
both deaths was heat-related. Multnomah County has opened cooling shelters over
the past few days, and also ramped up outreach to seniors and other vulnerable
people who may not have air conditioning. A spokesperson said those groups have
been at most risk in recent heat events - like the 2021 heat dome.”

Remnants of Portland's Unbuilt Freeways - Lemmy.world
>Portland, Oregon’s freeway network is only a fraction of what was originally
planned. This documentary takes a look at three proposed freeways that were
nearly built, the neighborhood revolts that led to their cancellation, and
remnants of these projects that are still visible today. This YouTuber does a
whole series of these short documentaries on Oregon history that are just great

Is it bad to only run at one pace? - Lemmy.world
I’m a casual runner so maybe this is a stupid question, but the more I get into
running the more I’m finding it hard to run at any pace other than the one I
settled into. If I run slower or faster, it’s moderated by my stride length, but
my feet hit the ground in sync with a 145BPM. If my feet are hitting the ground
at anything other than 145BPM it just feels wrong. I now have a spotify playlist
with about a dozen running songs at as close to 145BPM as possible (as little as
2 BPM deviation feels rushed or dragging). Is this just a mental thing? Is it a
bad habit to settle into? Am I alone in this?
