“It was not a madness: rather it was a too clear and naked perception of the darkness beyond this frail existence, lit by a momentary sun no more secure than ourselves: a realization of futility that few can experience and ever again touch the life about them”

H. P. Lovecraft
The Night Ocean

I’ve been (slowly) reading this excellent story. I posted another quote from it recently, but I think this one does a great job of describing that feeling of detachment that dreadful realizations can inspire.

If you haven’t read this story, you’re not alone! But it’s fantastic. Heard about it on a recent episode of The Good Friends of Jackson Elias podcast where they were talking about the ocean in cosmic horror. Didn’t even know about this story until then. It’s about an artist who is taking holiday in a quaint beach town after completing a long and tiring mural commission. And how the ocean slowly drives him mad (question mark?)

I’m enjoying it so far!

@apontious I’m really glad you’ve been enjoying it. I love the aesthetic and the concept. I’m a big fan of Delta Green (which is similarly RP-focused) and it kind of struck me - setting-wise - as a cross between DG, Call of Cthulhu, and D&D (in terms of the fantasy aspects of D&D).
@deviantollam gotta get all the way to Twatt…
@apontious My feelings are complicated. I like the premise, and the setting, but struggled with the mechanics. One of my players put it best: it feels like a game that’s trying to appear rules light, but isn’t hitting the mark with clarity of language and simplicity of mechanics in favor of Roleplaying. I’ve only been acquainted with the quick start - my impressions from that caused me to lose interest before the game came out. But that’s why I’m curious about your opinions, since I feel like you might have a more informed opinion about it.

@apontious what are your thoughts on Candela Obscura? I ran the starter scenario that’s included with the Quick Start Guide twice.
@apontious About to start playing in a Mothership game. Never tried it before.

More great #TTRPGDeals - pretty much the entire current run of #DeltaGreen on #HumbleBundle for $18.

It's an amazing game (quite possibly my favorite expression of the Cthulhu Mythos) and that's a wild price. All the core rules and more adventures that any group will likely ever survive. https://www.humblebundle.com/books/delta-green-rpg-collection-arc-dream-books

@frequentbeef it quickly became my favorite RPG. And that’s an excellent deal for #DeltaGreen books.
@jackrhysider this was an excellent episode. I’ve got to say Jack, your show has always been great, but I feel like especially lately you have been knocking it out of the park.
