I'm Xanny. I enjoy technology, horror movies and I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan, so you'll see me posting about such things most likely. Please note my thoughts are my own and my own only.

Pretty much all the games I play now run fine on Linux, so it might be finally time to pull the plug on the native Windows install and just run it in a VM if the need ever arises.
What started as "Oh, I'll just run a small mini PC to serve as a playground and a NAS for my photo storage" has turned into a full-blown homelab hobby. I'm going to do a write-up and a Youtube video as an official channel re-launch soon once my rack arrives.
@nixCraft Fun fact my first exposure to anything Unix-like was setting up a FreeBSD box to act as a dial-up router for home internet way back when. It always has a place in my heart.
Just a reminder to check your backups, friends! I just had to do a restore of my HomeAssistant and Docker VMs due to my LVM data going out to lunch. I'll be ordering a new drive but for now I'm on a spare.
AI does have its issues, for sure, and I certainly will never use it to create anything for distribution, but it has been helpful in finding information and pointing me in the right direction (and yes, I did double-check things). Work is leaning heavily into it, so I'm trying to use it more and more.
I've decided I'm done with Nintendo. I'll always enjoy and love their older stuff, but I'm drawing a line at the Switch 2. If I'm laying out $500 for a piece of hardware, it should be mine. Instead, Nintendo can brick them remotely if they deem something you do as 'hacking'. Sorry, that kind of money would be better spent on something else.
I plan on starting to post here more often, mostly about my tech journey. You can check out my BlueSky account linked on my profile for other shenanigans. Blog post is coming soon as well.
Been a while, Mastodon, but I'm still around. I upgraded my home server to another mini-PC with a 4 core, 8 thread Ryzen 5 2400G, 32GB RAM and it's running Proxmox. Learning about that, and I've also got HomeAssistant up and running now too.

I know the new terminal hotness right now is Ghostty, and one of the claims is 'native' Linux OS integration. Sorry, but no. On my Plasma desktop, it does not fit in at all.

If you're going to claim 'native', remember that native does not mean GTK. It sticks out like a sore thumb on my desktop.

FYI, I'm spending most of my time over on BlueSky. Find me there as @justxanny
