"look the computer can generate more code faster" the world absolutely does not need or want more code, nothing needs more code for the sake of code, we need utility, functionality and empathy, an encoded understanding of the problem being solved and the humans around it. Code is the price we pay for that encoded understanding. What you've created is an entropy spigot pointed at the proxy metric graph you’re stuck using because your management doesn't understand anything.

Cycling helps fight climate change and makes cities more livable. More profoundly, people who cycle regularly are more oriented toward the common good.

Cars turn people into sociopaths; bikes reverse that.

@foone when I was a teenager my friends and I would play this game where we tried to find a file the other had hidden on a floppy disk. In deep directory structures, with the hidden attribute, stuff like that. Once I used a double-notched disk and formatted each side separately, and put a bunch of chaff on the “top” side while the target was hidden on the “bottom”. My friend never considered putting the disk in upside-down!

As a quick reminder: AI doomerism is also #AIhype. The idea that synthetic text extruding machines are harbingers of AGI that is on the verge of combusting into consciousness and then turning on humanity is unscientific nonsense. 2/

At the same time, it serves to suggest that the software is powerful, even magically so: if the "AI" could take over the world, it must be something amazing. 3/

36 years ago today was the Max Headroom TV STL hijacking. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Headroom_signal_hijacking

I regard this incident as the best and purest hacking prank in modern history. The combination of sophisticated, meticulous technical planning and execution, utterly juvenile content, essential harmlessness, lack of financial motive, and never getting caught or identified (or later taking credit) remains, in my opinion, unmatched to this day.

Pure art.

One of the strongest parts of the case against Trump and his co-conspirators involves the fake elector scheme. Now, new evidence, along with a terrific timeline from the Georgia indictment, make that clearer than ever. I explain in today’s piece. https://open.substack.com/pub/statuskuo/p/two-frauds-dont-make-a-right?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
“Two Frauds Don’t Make A Right”

Back in December of 2020, when I first heard on the news about the GOP plan to have “alternate slates” of electors at the ready in the contested battleground states, I remember thinking, “Good luck with that.” I had understood their effort was to mirror what

@foone does your heat block have a silicone sock on it? If not, does the firmware expect it to?
