I talked (in Slovak) about our latest exhibition "The Man Has Emerged Triumphant" and accompanied field recordings at Rádio Devín: https://devin.stvr.sk/clanky/kulturny-dennik/433419/projekt-mateja-gavulu-a-jonasa-grusku-s-nazvom-clovek-zvitazil-arena-jana-medlena
After almost two years of work, last Friday we have opened a new exhibition with Matej Gavula in tranzit.sk gallery in Bratislava.
You can read an associated text about the history and some of my thoughts on oil extraction in western Slovakia here: https://jonasgru.sk/.../Man+Has+Emerged+Triumphant+(essay)
The exhibition will be open till 27th of March.

Testing the new camera flash with outdoor Opiliones and indoor Pholcinae :)
Yesterday me & @EsterMladenkova tried luring some night insects with UV-B and high CRI lights. It worked really well, more photos here: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?on=2025-09-22&user_id=jonasgruska&verifiable=any
I reached 1000 different species on my iNaturalist profile. This means I photographed at least 1000 proofs of evidence of taxonomically separate organisms around the globe. These are mainly fungi, but I recently started to post more insects & birds as well. I highly recommend using this platform — it adds a new layer of perception of the world around us. And there is a chance your observations will be become valuable for biologists. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?user_id=jonasgruska
Working on the bird photography skills. Never realized how observant and cautious they are. More to be found on my iNaturalist profile: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=any&user_id=jonasgruska&verifiable=any
After watching the new excellent documentary/comedy about "extreme birdwatching" named Listers (https://youtu.be/zl-wAqplQAo), I am also slowly getting into bird photography. Completely new game compared to static lichens and fungi. Good way to work on my patience and observing skills, refocusing back on the canopy and the skies. These sparrows were photographed in our garden in the early morning. I guess they were still a little sleepy and didn't see me peeking in the window.
