You might have read the 2024 edition of the #WebAlmanac and wondered how #jpeg_xl is doing....
I had a quick look into the ImageEngine data to see.

‣ AVIF and JPEGXL is about equally efficient when it comes to byte reduction.

‣ JPEG XL has better visual quality at the same byte saving ratio than AVIF

‣ WEBP is great for smaller images, thanks to lower overhead than esp. AVIF due to the HEIC container.

‣ Modern formats at the origin is almost not visible. <1%.

Accidentally logged into Twitter. What a mess. 🧟
Can it be true? A free SaaS service that actually *deletes* data?
If so, I very much appreciate it!

OK @bravebrowser , what's going on?
Brave isn't passing..🧐
WTF google sheets??
Honestly, I don't like the "best practice" of lazy loading images! Might be good to pass web metrics, but it not good for user experience!
It's too lazy!

Somewhat surprising.... The "data saver" mode (aka Save-Data) in Chrome and on androids, is most popular i Europe.
Since google changed how to enable data saver mode, the usage has dropped significantly. Still, people find it, and use it. I'd expect more use in Asia (which used to be the case), but now also EU, with its good connection speeds, is trending...

So this is how Responsive Web Design has grown to be defined.... 🤦‍♂️

#genai is awesome. Most of the times. Managing fingers seems to be the last frontier 🖐️ 😅
#jpegxl is super stable in terms of optimization and visual quality compared to #avif which is all over the place.
Did a quick test on a small sample to see if the behaviour corelated with any easily available data such as bpp, entropy, skewness and kurtosis.
No immediate sense can be made from this 😅
