If you’ve found that all the Mastodon apps out there currently haven’t been great, you’re in luck. 😏

On the left, how people voted by age in the 2019 General Election.

On the right, a list of what the government deem to be acceptable voter ID.

Voter ID will be mandatory from May, it is designed to retain power by force. It exists to exclude the young and poor from democracy.

Hey, so, we've hit 1,028,362 monthly active users across the network today. 1,124 new Mastodon servers since Oct 27, and 489,003 new users. That's pretty cool.
I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Even when doing it for "good" like ridiculing awful comments, you are giving awful comments more eyeballs that way. No quote toots. Thank's
I don't think Mastodon or the fediverse has ever received this much attention before. It's a great opportunity for people to finally see that social media can be done differently, that it can be a protocol not under control of any single company.

Pros of Mastodon after 9 days:

• rebuilding my follow list got me out of whatever morass I was in on Twitter

• compared to Twitter, there's *way* higher engagement with people overall

• almost everyone's been chill

• there's a learning curve and the capability to build, which is more interesting than numb consumption

• the #brands have yet to arrive
