@samhenrigold Thanks for the explanation!
@samhenrigold I haven’t written anything too complex in SwiftUI yet (mostly just stuff like little modals and collection view cells). If you have a moment, why is this bad and what should be used instead?

It's a tiny thing, but something I miss when using platforms other than macOS for my day-to-day is the ubiquitous functional drag and drop. It's nice to be able to drag an attachment straight out of an email in Mail.app and drop it into a web form without an intermediate file cluttering up my downloads folder.

It feels so natural that it's a bit shocking when it's not there or support is only half-baked.

@thefwguy My thoughts precisely. Mastodon, especially a techy subset of it, is likely not remotely representative of the larger population.

@stroughtonsmith I suspect that a significant chunk of the strength of both Apple’s dev and user bases are owed to the hackintosh scene. More than Apple would ever dare to admit.

For example a lot of the more visible participants were pro audio people who had outgrown their old cheese grater towers but weren’t adequately served by the trash can Mac Pro. That’s a bunch of people who would’ve otherwise jumped ship.

@colincornaby 5090-class performance with 64/128/256 and maybe 512GB of unified RAM in a consumer product is wild to think about. Even crazier if they manage to cram it into the Studio chassis without it cooking itself.

It doesn’t get talked about a lot, but Bluetooth on Apple stuff has gotten really, really good.

I can listen to something playing on my M4 iPad Pro using AirPods Pro 2 on the other side of the house on a different floor through walls and the audio doesn’t cut out or degrade or anything.

That’s borderline WiFi performance which is crazy for the same standard that with other source + receiver combos sometimes struggle to function with just one wall separating them.

In this screenshot, the Spaces icon in the Dock showing off its 2D grid-based nature is visible.

I used that feature extensively and was so let down when 10.7 Lion watered Spaces down to a single axis. While I understand that the original version may have been confusing for new users I wish they'd left it in as an option that was turned off by default.

It may just be my imagination, but I feel like in the past 2-3 months there’s been a notable increase in the number of EVs I see on the road around here. It’s getting to the point where it’s strange if I don’t see several while out and about.

Maybe most surprising is the number of Honda Prologues. Wouldn’t have expected a GM rebadge to be that successful.

And all of this is despite tax incentives drying up…
