Engineering nerd, activist for various things, awful old Corvettes, angry gay, friend you haven't met yet. I tell the occasional joke.
Something I really like about the character of Nick Nelson is that he struggles a bit (“Is this who I am? Do I love this person?”) but once he decides he commits and difficulties be damned.
New key ring, thanks to out motor sports. 🏳️‍🌈
Washed my car today in preparation for the 2500 mile drive to my new home.
I keep an eye out for appropriate cassettes to play in my ‘88 Corvette. This is today’s find.
Tonight's CinemaJohn was The Story of Robin Hood (1952), part of my Walt Disney media project and the second post-war film made in the UK with past profits held in country. Does it hold up? Yes, I think so. The plot is straightforward but it's well done and entertaining. Almost every review says "Good, but not as good the Errol Flynn version." That might be true, I've not seen it. In fact, this is the first Robin Hood film I've seen.
Tonight’s CinemaJohn was Alice in Wonderland (1951), part of my Walt Disney media project. I didn’t like this film in the same way I generally don’t like hanging out with overly stoned or drunk people. I wanted conventional plot but I got one trippy nonsense scene after another.
Tonight’s CinemaJohn was Nature’s Half Acre (1951), part of the Disney True Life Adventure series. This 32 minute short focuses on the small scale life you might otherwise not notice on a typical small piece of natural land.
Tonight’s CinemaJohn is Treasure Island (1950), part of my Walt Disney media project where I watch all his stuff in order. In short, it’s good! Robert Newton’s Long John Silver seems stereotypical but it’s what SET the pop culture pirate archetype.
Tonight’s CinemaJohn was Cinderella (1950), part of my Walt Disney media project. This is the first big hit from the studio since Snow White (1937) and they needed it. The studio was in bad financial shape and might not have survived without it.
Tonight’s CinemaJohn was The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949), part of my Walt Disney media project where I watch it all in chronological order. We’ve finally made it to the end of 1940s “package films,” this one being two shorts based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Wind in the Willows, respectively. First up is Toad, whose manic enthusiasm is familiar to many of us.
