Amnesty International UK warns the government's current attempt to restrict the right to strike is "one more example of its drive to erode human rights in this country" #strikes #righttostrike #UK https://www.amnesty.org.uk/press-releases/uk-alarming-anti-strike-bill-gives-government-sweeping-powers-clamp-down-industrial
UK: 'Alarming' anti-strike bill gives Government sweeping powers to clamp down on industrial action

Proposed anti-strike law ignores key safeguards and undermines international labour standards

50 human rights & civil society organisations cosign Liberty's letter to the UK government over their plans to restrict the right to strike.

"We believe the proposals for minimum service levels during industrial action will unfairly constrain the activities of trade unions and their members by allowing a further significant and unjustified intrusion by the state into the freedom of association and assembly."

New anti-strike bill will lead to more walk outs, 50 leading rights groups warn

The Bill would hand ministers 'vast powers' to curb strike action, as well as permitting them to amend current and future laws with little scrutiny from Parliament, groups have warned

@tbernard I remember watching Mitchell Baker give a "future of work" talk in front of a hall of French CEOs many years ago. She told them Mozilla had many internationally talented volunteer devs for whom contributing gave them the creativity, agency and control that they were denied in their day jobs. The first Q&A from a CEO started "So, we could get people to work for nothing?" as we watched the point sail over his head.
The TUC petition to protect our #RightToStrike from the Tories' new bill is over 200,000 strong and growing! Have you signed yet? https://www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/protect-the-right-to-strike?source=actionnetworkshare
Protect the right to strike!

This government has gone from clapping key workers to threatening them with the sack if they take lawful action for a pay rise. Instead of listening to the concerns of working people and negotiating fair deals, Rishi Sunak has decided to undermine the right to strike. As the cost-of-living crisis continues to hurt workers everywhere, we need to be able to stand together and choose to strike when we must. These laws will do nothing to fix this crisis - they will make it even harder for...

Really dangerous and draconian stuff. Presented as minor, reasonable, boring process tweaks, but aiming at the heart of one of the few real rights working people have. Their main response to the cost of living crisis now is not to help workers but to criminalise them if they won't suck it up. https://www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/protect-the-right-to-strike?source=twitter_share_button&utm_source=twitter&share=3276a321-bdf2-40a3-bf55-43e8cd27b43a

@jon Fighting talk there - very much love my Bordo! Though concede the look of your frame could make one pretty fiddly.
The irony is that if the Tories went on strike, their poll rating would go up.
@HugoBookClub +1 to that. In the UK, sister union AVU are taking that up for our own VFX industry. From make-up to camerawork, movies are heavily unionised and as a result conditions are reasonable, with security & safety. Not so in the newest and fastest growing part of the industry though, where crunch & short termism are making people's lives much too hard. https://www.animvfxunion.com
