as practitioners of computer, I think we are doing a very bad job with computer.

“I myself shall certainly continue to leave such research to others, and to devote my time to developing concepts that are authentic and trustworthy. And I hope you do the same.”

“One of my chefs mentioned that if they could cook the steak on the grill they could get it right the first time. This is not an acceptable attitude in the microwave era. Also they’re worried I’m planning on firing all of them. That’s true, but not relevant here.” https://www.colincornaby.me/2025/08/in-the-future-all-food-will-be-cooked-in-a-microwave-and-if-you-cant-deal-with-that-then-you-need-to-get-out-of-the-kitchen/
In the Future All Food Will Be Cooked in a Microwave, and if You Can’t Deal With That Then You Need to Get Out of the Kitchen

As a restaurant owner – I’m astounded at the rate of progress since microwaves were released a few short years ago. Today’s microwave can cook a frozen burrito. Tomorrow’s m…

Also, truly a gem in my collection of Ancient Paper Artifacts—I just scanned and uploaded the AOL guide for "Information Providers." This document was heavily NDA-ed back when AOL existed. https://archive.org/details/america-online-information-providers-guide-release-1.0-july-1994
I take it all back. My favorite thing about all of this is that the From: line comes from none other than “2Captcha Robot”. 10/10, no notes

I’m not sure what I love/hate more about this (misdirected) email: the fact that a service exists to pay people to type out CAPTCHAs, the fact that it actually bothers to verify your email address in order to sign up, or the fact that the verification code is literally “123123.”

‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens

UVALDE, TX—In the hours following a violent rampage in Texas in which a lone attacker killed at least 21 individuals and injured several others, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Tuesday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place. “This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these things just happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them,” said Idaho resident Kathy Miller, echoing sentiments expressed by tens of millions of individuals who reside in a nation where over half of the world’s deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the past 50 years and whose citizens are 20 times more likely to die of gun violence than those of other developed nations. “It’s a shame, but what can we do? There really wasn’t anything that was going to keep this individual from snapping and killing a lot of people if that’s what they really wanted.” At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past eight years were referring to themselves and their situation as “helpless.”

Even New York’s Strict Gun Laws Couldn’t Prevent the Midtown Shooting

New York City has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation. But Monday’s mass shooting showed their limits, security experts said.
