theres this thing that a goose could do with its neck, where they kind of snap the entire neck like an elastic band. the neck moves so fast that you dont even see it, and the resulting shockwave is so strong it can, and will, kill all fish in a pond of up to 100m diameter, or any human shorter than 6' 4⅔"
imagine a new product called the Honk Straw. basically, it's a drinking straw, but whenever you drink a beverage using it, it makes a loud "Honk" sound. like a goose. a certain type of person finds this very impressive, so a lot of money has been invested in it. the executives issue a diktat: everyone in the office must have a Honk Straw at their desk at all times. people are sitting around on calls, honking away. yet more money is poured in. the Honk Straw has really changed how we do business
for almost a decade i feel like ive been catching up on all the famous people who died in 2016. so many really well-known celebrities died in 2016 that often i'll be like. "oh, is he still alive" and i'll look and find out that nope, he died in 2016, and i missed it, because i was distracted by some other celebrity who had also died, probably on the same day
ive never learnt how most of the stuff inside a linux distro works under the hood because you just cant really. its not practical. theyre all different. if you freeze time, at any one instant, all the different linuces have a slightly different everything. then, you unfreeze time, and they all start changing along that dimension too. theyre all changing and updating and breaking in parallel. its completely antithetical to the sense of understanding and control that i want a computer to satisfy
i love that i have a machine in my home which can wash my clothes, and then, when they're clean, in the same machine, without even having to take them out, it can dry those same clothes. what perplexes me, though, is that it requires me to get up and flip a selector switch from 'wash' to 'dry' and then press a button and walk away. theres no option for "wash, then dry". strange design, curious. i guess they call it 'human in the loop'

@jk is that a low-poly red XIII figurine?
@jk took me a while to notice the coaster in the background here, I thought you'd made a blender model like your pfp
@tomharris the grainy picture does look a lot like a low-samples Cycles render
@jk that's not a giraffe.
