A lot of Mastodon instance admins are either getting their first hosting bill or getting a very increased bill from extreme growth and usage. Some may be experiencing bill shock.
Please make sure your paying/supporting them!
Twitter was free because you were the product. Mastodon doesn't work this way.
Many instances list a patreon or donation links on their about page.

I can't help but notice many toots from helpful newbies encouraging you to support the Mastodon Patreon.
It's fine to do that but understand it goes to just two big instances and the official Mastodon dev team.
It does NOT trickle down to YOUR instance. If you want to support your server, donate to it directly. Nearly all the costs of the explosive growth of the past few weeks is borne by local instances.
Mastodon is decentralized. There is no Mastodon Inc. This is not Twitter.
I updated the Hub (https://hub.techhub.social) with the latest numbers.

I also added patreon as a source of donations via different tier level.
Reminder: donating doesn't give you any visibility, privileges or favors. You are merely helping keeping #techhub alive.
Thanks for everyone that has donated so far.
@mikegalsworthy unpopular opinion, I've always thought the blue ticks very elitist, with quite obscure and inconsistenly applied rules on who got them.
I think an opt in system of verification open to all is actually a much more democratic approach.
I don't even think a commercial organisation charging for it is a problem.
But yeah, I can see why some will think it a loss of status and influence.
