@dangillmor @verge I’ve got say that I’ve heard a bunch of unsophisticated takes on the VergeCast about mastodon. Surprised that they have been so slow on what is probably the most interesting development in social software in years.
Okay, here's a remarkable thing about the fediverse: I was able to seamlessly move my followers to a new server, and the vast majority of them *never even noticed* that it happened. About 24 hours ago, I decided to move from mastodon[dot]cloud (because it had been bought up by sketchy new owners), and I came to @medium's new me.dm instance. At that time, I had 25,829 followers, and now less than 24 hrs later, I have 22,648 followers on this new account — without them having to do anything.
President Zelensky’s brief reference in his speech to the 1777 Battle of Saratoga during the American Revolution was smart. That battle was a turning point in the war, a huge American victory over the British which finally convinced France to become a formal ally to the US. This lines up with his view of the current war as a war of independence backed by a powerful overseas ally after military success.
Today’s social media status quo isn’t cutting it, so Mozilla is exploring an alternative here on Mastodon. In early 2023, Mozilla will be testing a publicly accessible instance in the Fediverse at Mozilla.Social. We will keep you updated, but for now learn more here: https://mzl.la/3BNXQMQ

@lukasneville @ubiquity75 i said elsewhere that for an engineer, the only thing worse than having Musk as a CEO is having him as a CTO

I cannot overstate how terrible it must be to have him as a technical leader.

A giant destructive, tantrum-throwing man-child who has never once in his life coordinated effort to overcome a technical obstacle; he confuses chrome with steel and hasn't written or reviewed a line of code since the nineties

UPDATE: The tweets by @[email protected] this morning, announcing a new policy banning linking to competing websites, have been deleted.

The policy itself was deleted from Twitter’s website.

Musk’s lackeys spent their entire day in my mentions defending this absurd policy as just and wise only to have Musk abandon it in less than 12 hours

#JWST has gotten the first glimpse of 7-planet system TRAPPIST-1 with potentially #habitable worlds.

According to these first results, TRAPPIST-1 g probably doesn’t have a hydrogen-rich #atmosphere — which would be relatively easy to spot because it is so physically large. That could mean that the planet has a denser atmosphere, made of heavier molecules, such as carbon dioxide, or no atmosphere at all.
