@transdiffusion @BigJackBrass
There were plenty of people willing to defend TBAWMS on the basis that blacking up was by the 1960s a decades old British Music Hall tradition divorced from its origins (although clearly not a few decades earlier as shown by how the contents of 1920s/30s BBC Minstrel shows are billed in Radio Times). Not many though would turn it on its head.
@avavsystems Also the only yearbook I think where the coverage maps show Bilsdale attached to YTV, and how small the Tyne-Tees area would be as a consequence.
@KecskeBak Used to be referred to as the "ice-cream cone on fire". The Torch of Knowledge was a bit too obscure even then.
@transdiffusion Probably just because it doesn't appear on day 1. No thought that this just may have been an atypical day, with the promo and all.
@thisisrjg I think I've told this story before but once in Switzerland I was checking into a hotel and was asked if I had asthma. I said yes without thinking about it. Opened the door to the room I'd been given and it had a hospital bed in it with monitoring equipment and oxygen tanks etc . Turned out the hotel was next door to a private asthma clinic and most British guests staying there would be attending it.
@KecskeBak @transdiffusion LWT though really didn't want to take on Wembley even as a temporary site before developing a new central London location. But Teddington Studio 2 certainly was a bit poky only a little more than half the size of the typical 1970s Blue Peter studio (TC6).
@rhinoceraptor @TechConnectify They could at least have come up with a better form factor with a retractable ISOD rather than a fixed metal one since it doesn't require earthing. Many chargers have them these days.
@avavsystems Not seen it, but have seen plenty of accounts these "side-by-side" pictures is what people experienced from DX reception of 819 broadcasts on a 405 line set. Unlikely to have been quite so stable.
@htw @thisisrjg While it still requires "invites" its growth and reach will be constrained.
