I've been a hermit lately, but I'm dipping my toes in the social media waters again, running a single-tenant Mastodon instance.

I have a love/hate relationship with both computers and the web. Though I’ve been a web developer since 1999, work is the least exciting thing about me.

I like to travel, but I'm becoming increasingly uneasy about its impact. So, I’m always contemplating ways to reduce its footprint.

I don't know what I'm doing.

I've had my mind stuck in one of those stagnant states all weekend. Not stagnant as in idle, but stagnant like moving one direction, then moving the opposite, then moving again, and yet again so you find yourself back in the same spot.
I filmed another short video of a walk around Ferrara this morning. I'm still getting comfortable with recording videos in public; something about it makes me feel uneasy. Even still, these short videos are neat, and I'm sure I'll enjoy watching them even more in a few years when we're back home, and I can't remember what it was like here.

A Morning Walk in Ferrara

It's sobering to start your Saturday morning tired from working all week while at the same time not feeling like you made anything of real meaning or value.
@farbtaps Well, this just brightened my mood. 😊 Thank you so much for sharing!
I recorded a short video during my morning walk yesterday, so I'll remember what it's like here after we leave: https://boles.video/w/8JBXCFMuASHQeZSFwbHDix. I plan to make a few more of these.

@Sophie This is so neat! I’ve always found alt-clocks really interesting and have wanted to make something like this for a long time. Now I’m inspired to do so! Thanks so much for sharing!
Please excuse me while I melt into an existential puddle in the corner.
My kids have both told me on this trip that they like me better when I’m not working so much.
I thought I’d hit a stride with work/trip/life balance. But my old friend, insomnia, has crept back into my life these past few nights. Not getting a decent night’s sleep puts my brain into a foggy/stagnated state that is hard to escape. The weather being 35°C+ here in Italy this past week certainly isn’t helping either.
@robpike That “sorry” that you wrote at the end is a bit heart-wrenching because I often find myself saying the same thing to people. I know I’m not responsible for all ills computers inflict on those I care about, but a part of me does think I could have done better for the part I did play.
