I've had my mind stuck in one of those stagnant states all weekend. Not stagnant as in idle, but stagnant like moving one direction, then moving the opposite, then moving again, and yet again so you find yourself back in the same spot.
I filmed another short video of a walk around Ferrara this morning. I'm still getting comfortable with recording videos in public; something about it makes me feel uneasy. Even still, these short videos are neat, and I'm sure I'll enjoy watching them even more in a few years when we're back home, and I can't remember what it was like here.

A Morning Walk in Ferrara
PeerTubeIt's sobering to start your Saturday morning tired from working all week while at the same time not feeling like you made anything of real meaning or value.
I recorded a short video during my morning walk yesterday, so I'll remember what it's like here after we leave:

A Quick Walk Through Ferrarese Porticoes
PeerTubePlease excuse me while I melt into an existential puddle in the corner.
My kids have both told me on this trip that they like me better when I’m not working so much.
I thought I’d hit a stride with work/trip/life balance. But my old friend, insomnia, has crept back into my life these past few nights. Not getting a decent night’s sleep puts my brain into a foggy/stagnated state that is hard to escape. The weather being 35°C+ here in Italy this past week certainly isn’t helping either.
I enjoy the morning sounds here in Ferrara: the creek of shutters opening, the scuttle of pigeons having rein of the street before the humans wake, the tick-tick of people lighting their gas stoves to make coffee.
I use this setup all of the time back in Missouri. Still, doing things like playing my personal music library and the podcasts I've subscribed to, which are sitting on a drive connected to a Raspberry Pi in my basement back home, feels magical across an ocean.
I was lucky enough to catch “An Irish Goodbye” playing here at the Apollo last weekend.
