Capital owners in tech have very successfully sold rich laborers on the idea that they should act and vote more like bosses than like laborers, and seldom have I seen this idea play out in a more heartless manner than watching techbros talk about AI. Owning a home makes you well off, but it doesn't mean that the same people using AI to displace and devalue all other kinds of intellectual labor won't also come for you.
Tech workers, even the very well-off ones, need to understand class.
Hogfather was a treat. Lots of fun to read, capped off with some really poignant moments and social commentary.
Death trying to be the Hogfather (Discworld's Father Christmas/Santa Claus) led to lots of amusing misunderstandings as well as insightful moments. Susan trying to figure out what's going on was a solid adventure which kept my attention the whole way through. The various bad guys were interesting and fairly well fleshed out.
The climax was 😙👌 and had some choice quotes, including "Humans need fantasy to be human. To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape." 👏
It finally happened.

I recently saw someone leave fedi at least temporarily as a result of harassment, and one thing they highlighted was that most of us don't see the harassment they were getting because of how federation works and the fact that our instances block all the vile ones most of the harassment was coming from.
They were running their own single-user instance. 🙁
We really need better resources for single user instances to benefit from third-party moderation resources, but we also need to get the narrative out that running a single user instance is a horrible idea unless you want to be your own fulltime moderator or drowned in engagement from the worst parts of the net. Treating it as a viable option now really sours folks to the whole concept.
