You see dads in the playground on Fridays and lots on Saturday and Sunday. But we'll know we've hit equality when half the grownups sitting on the floor singing along to a librarian doing wheels on the bus on a rainy Tuesday are men.

This is going to sound weird but it really hit me watching the coronation of King Charles. There were kids all over the shop in that ceremony. They had roles. But you don't see kids in the inauguration of a President or the start of a new Parliament.
Since I became a dad I notice far more how absent children are from a lot of parts of public life. Their lives are hermetically sealed off from "the real world". We get streets, they get playgrounds.
