I had the thought, that maybe the author could be intentionally trying to be mind-numbingly boring, but that just killed it. Into the slop jail!

Turns out, that uv also sucks now!
OpenAI to acquire Astral - awful.systems

I thought this was worthy of it’s own post rather than a sneery comment. Astral make UV which at this point is a load bearing part of the python software ecosystem. This could have a huge knock on effect on the open source community. I for one can’t wait for non-deterministic package management “You’re absolutely right, I did install the wrong package and infect your system with malware. I will try much harder next time”

uv has a CLAUDE.md since January. Sooo, back to pip it is?

Doesn’t say anything about targeting software. So “guided” can be read as “flies in a straight line”?

I tend to like her education takes. Like the first piece of hers that I read.
We should rethink how we teach people to code | deadSimpleTech

It's fair to say that the tech industry at the moment is not in a good place. Software engineers tend to be detached, demotivated and unwilling to care much about the work they're doing beyond their paycheck. Code quality is poor on the whole, made worse by the current spate of vibe coding and whatever other febrile ideas come out of Sam Altman's brain. Much of the software that we write is either useless or actively hurts people. And the talented, creative people that we most need in the industry are pushed to the margins of it.

This seems to less of an AI problem and more of a “you have no rights” problem.

The likeness and chance for mistaken identity was there from the start… though access to a nationwide biometrics database and encouragement of lazy AI policing definitely helps stuff like this along.

I was low-key hoping for a technical philosophical article, which argues that to find any of this shit useful you need a distinctly american understanding of reality.
