@NoFlexZone I see them less as defenders of privacy but defenders of hegemony, or at the very least self interest. Most of them have no qualms using infosec as a weapon, as opposed to a set of virtues to uphold.

I dunno if anyone's done a write up of it, but the cyber security community participates in not an insignificant amount of colonial disinformation. It's directly linked to the fact that many of its practitioners were trained by the NSA (among others), and/or benefit from the military industrial complex.

The problem is the uncritical way their views permeate #OnHere. Why believe the people warning you about state actors if they omit the most pernicious and deadly state actor of them all?
