Hey! I'm Anthony, aka Jank Hambrams around the web. I'm a visual artist who focuses a lot on surreal, dreamlike, and whimsical environments and their inhabitants, sometimes with a darker edge. I love environmental storytelling.

Sometimes I write and make other stuff, as well.

I have an absurdist sense of humor. Not a fan of bigots.

Here from meh.social to have an account specifically for art.

I completed my first gouache sketchbook last night, 50 pages of paintings in a little over six months. I'm absolutely in love with this medium, I never knew traditional painting could be so lightweight and convenient  To send off this book, here's my four favorite pages, and four more recent sketches I haven't posted before in the replies
...and the promised recent sketches. These are all fully from imagination, just picking up my tin palette with all the paints already in it and ready to go, and being done 45 minutes later. So quick and easy I'm more inclined to do this than a digital sketch these days when I'm trying out color ideas
@molentum These are all so lovely! You capture atmosphere and personality well
@molentum Yeah that makes a lot of sense
@molentum I've seen people do "plein air" painting in VR in games like Fallout 4. Doing studies of game screenshots is a fantastic idea
@molentum A friend recommended this to me and I got it ages ago, but haven't played it. I'm very intrigued, hearing that its atmosphere is that good!

I thought I‘d share a bit of my process, Inspired by @molentum‘s fantastic blog post yesterday about lighting before local color. Here‘s a piece I did last year with the same idea. It goes clean sketch/lines » shadows (NOT values) » gradient map » local color multiply » overpaint

And the thought is to establish the warmer vs cooler tints as the foundation before getting to the final values (although I did a very rough local color layer to „preview“ the final result at this stage)

New blog post, in which I get pedantic about local color and explain why it matters to artists https://molentum.me/blog/2026/local-color/
@doombloomart I know that feeling! I like getting as much use out of something as I can, even when it becomes kinda silly to do so
@doombloomart That's how I upgraded to a huion a few years ago. So tempting!!
