In this week's column I argue for creating a sales tax lottery that incentivizes folks to keep their receipts and scan them into a database -- entering them in a chance to win and reducing the ability to suppress sales on the merchant's end.

The scary truth about our society is that our quiet enjoyment of life is dependent on unspoken, jointly agreed upon fictions that prevent us from exercising the maximum of our abilities. Our son has unfortunately discovered that bedtime is a ruse and that there is functionally no penalty for violating this hallowed tradition. I fear for the peace of our household.

I absolutely love small claims pretrial conferences. Someone's called in while getting a massage. He doesn't have to be on video, but he is, shirtless in his massage chair. We get to hear his grunts as the woman behind him (does she know she's on video in open court?) works on him.

Small update on the #ReedyCreek #Disney lawsuit against #DeSantis and #Florida: the 11th Circuit just indicated that Disney is on very strong footing.

By 3-0 decision, they held favorably for a State Attorney removed in part for retaliation against political speech, showing willingness to wade into state internal business.

Trump appointee Newsom's concurrence made clear his view that "anti-woke" retaliation and speech restrictions violate the First Amendment.
