Tired. So tired.

I have an interest in interactive fiction and currently working on a small tool to create IF and branching narratives.

If you have ever used the word "woke" as a pejorative, then we will probably not get along.

What, there's a Malenia movie? I better go watch that. I hope she says her famous line, "I am Malenia, blade of Miquella, and I have never known defeat." Long live the goddess of rot. (on a serious note, my country at least has the sense to not screen the actual movie I am making fun of anywhere)

Some years ago I met an American man in Cape Town at a barber shoppe. While getting shorn we chatted, and he told me that he travels from the US to Cape Town every 2 years to visit the dentist.

Because apparently it worked out cheaper for him to do a whole-ass holiday to a foreign country and pay for the dentist out of pocket, than whatever he had to do back home.

There's a person on Tiktok calling churches in the US to check if any would be willing to feed a hungry baby (=no, basically), and one of them said on the call "benevolence is only for our members", which totally sounds like a line a Leslie Nielsen character might say in a Zucker brothers spoof movie.
Ordering breakfast I see "ceremonial grade matcha" on the menu. Is that like "weapons grade plutonium"?
@heals @welshpixie oh undoubtedly. but maybe "all" is a bit broad... the khoisan groups of southern Africa were generally peaceful gentle people, for example. And to your point, yeah they got into conflict with the people who migrated from central Africa and did not fare well. They are all but extinct now.
@wronglang There is the Adeptus Administratum, tasked with record keeping and finance management for thousands of planets, but they use really outdated methods for doing this work, so sometimes entire planets would end up getting neglected and starve or worse.
@wronglang There are actually beaurocratic factions in the lore. And as with anything Warhammer it's not even a bit subtle.

All the Warhammer* news from last week reminded me how we tend to romanticise things that parade cruelty as strength. Real world examples: Pirates, Vikings, Spartans - all despicable groups of people. And yeah, yeah, in real world politics too, but I am too tired.

* I do love Warhammer for all its horror, but it is important to stay aware of who the bad guys are - pretty much everyone

@loke @rune Also, for investors they can say "look how we are growing your investment by buying all these companies", and then later say to them, "hey look how we are protecting your investment by closing these studios and doing all these layoffs"
