If "Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta all withdrew from the CPP — three provinces! — would drain the plan of 128 per cent of its assets" which makes it clear that this calculation needs to be considered as bogus, in terms of a fair division of assets

It's also funny that there is a modeling trick in this game. The rules on what the CPP can hold changed, and if you ignore that you can get a counterfactual where the fund is silly.

Alberta wants to leave the CPP: Can they do that and what does it mean for the rest of Canada?

A new report says Alberta is entitled to up to $334 billion of CPP's assets if it does leave the national plan. Find out more

This is so silly. Ontario would have to be daft to agree to this plan. Hard to imagine that this process would be anything but a disaster

This is just nuts. A private company concludes that Alberta, which makes 16% of CPP contributions, can leave with 53% of the assets, based on what the contributions would have been worth had Alberta never participated in the plan.

This post over on Twitter has me thinking about whether making post-docs expected as a part of academia was a bad decision. For a lot of people this type of salary difference would be decisive.
Visiting DC is always interesting. It was my first big U.S. city but it has changed so much. After 25 years it looks different, now, but always reminds me of a young man trying to find his own way in the world and what a great incubator it would be for him.

@UlrichJunker @Iris It would appear there is Shift In Grift - I found this piece by @davidgerard insightful:

To quote, 'Do AI art and ChatGPT output qualify as art? Can they be used for art? Sure, anything can be used for art. But that’s not a substantive question. The important questions are who’s getting paid, who’s getting ripped off, and who’s just running a grift.'
Crypto collapse? Get in loser, we’re pivoting to AI

The same grift by the same grifters.

@garius My cats would make vocal noises and run back and forth from the food bowl to my legs, likely ramming them. Service ratings would likely drop. Chaos would reign.
@Popehat looking forward to learning why it was bad strategy to charge RICO and how it over complicated the case
