Social media algorithms replace the role editors had in traditional media. Lots of people like stuff edited for them, and presented to them as worthy of their consideration. Unlike human editors, the algorithms can be highly personalised, meaning you can have an "editor" for whatever you're into.
Problem is, they work on the most base reactions you have. Did you stop scrolling for a second because of boobs? An outrageous headline? The algorithm is like having a tabloid editor just for you.
The current status of twitter has me reflecting on how we choose to spend our time online...
So many people are on platforms not because they want to be, but because they're addicted.
I think it's very important to spend our time (online, and in real life) in places that are good for us, not places we feel like we have to be.
Watched the first episode of Severence last night. I LOVED IT. I'm not afraid of a slow-burn start if I can tell it's going somewhere - and I am onboard for this cast and this premise.
