@bjo If you need long battery life without frequent recharging, you should look for boards with NRF52840 (Heltec T114, RAK 4631, FakeTec, SeeedStudio). Or just set the appropriate energy-saving options for ESP32.

Ultimately, I would try both and go with the one you like better.
What I've noticed so far is that messages come through better in MeshCore.
This was clearly evident at #39c3, for example. Minor misconfigurations in #meshtastic pushed the airtime extremely high.

As far as I know, if you really want to build a relay (router) and always have a companion with you, you would need two devices. If there are enough routers in your area, you may not need your own.

Regarding the Tracking: IP tracking is definitely possible. While cookies don’t store IP addresses themselves, they can be used to recognize users across sessions.
If you really want to test this properly, you should use a VPN together with a fresh browser profile, or use the Tor network via the Onion Browser.

@N33R maybe Something like https://mail.tm/de/ ? But i dont know about If they are blocked by Most Sites. Also you would habe Look Into saving the Password / creating an Account.

You can use the PCB, but you don’t have to.
It has the same form factor as a Heltec V3, but uses an nRF52840, so it’s quite energy-efficient.
The cost is only around €5–10 per unit.
