I pulled up by this lavender bush. A whole assortment of sketchy people kept going up to it. Looking around. As if it were some sort of drop off point. I didn’t see anything. Maybe they were truly after the lavender.

If you’re attacked by a bear and survive, you might become obsessed with bears. You might think you see one out of the corner of your eye and your heart will race. You might write songs about it or bring it up in conversations where it is only barely tangental. You might get a pet that reminds you of one. Or get a tattoo of a claw.

Sure you might do all that.

But do you also unconditionally forgive the bear and profess your undying love?

Hell no. And you shouldn’t.

I don’t believe in woo woo things. Does my hematite ring absorb “negative” energy, protecting me from ill will, and then break once it is “full”? Or is it fragile and can only withstand so many impacts?

Do we believe the universe puts things in our path? Was I supposed to run into my ex at the sushi spot today? Right after her break up? These things don’t just happen. But they did happen.

Like those first five minutes or so of PT Anderson’s movie Magnolia. Poignant coincidences. Rife with meaning. Really provoking the pattern recognizing instinct in the human mind.
Making us hope, as Hunter S Thompson said, that someone is tending the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hematite rings are cheap. They break when they do and then I go get another one because I like the way they look. I like their magnetic properties and slate sheen. That’s magic enough for me
