I do wonder what cheap AI-generated images will do to the photography and illustration professions—but the hurricane already hit 25 years ago, w microstock, photo-sharing, and image search.

AI tools only exist b/c of free/cheap images.

One of the interesting and disturbing aspects of modern LLMs isn’t what new they do, but what they make cheap. Low-quality, duplicative content makes retrieving quality information incredibly hard, especially in commercially lucrative domains such as product reviews. Making it 3+ orders of magnitude less expensive to produce that content will not help our informarion ecosystem, even if AI content is identical in quality and substance to what humans are already producing.

Managed to capture some video of the BeMachine running the Hobbit-93080009.img available online. It's weird looking at this proto-BeOS, predating the PPC BeBox, and a lot of evolution of the system. Still many familiar icons and interfaces...

I'm still working on how to best capture video. This is VGA from the machine to VGA->HDMI adapter to an HDMI capture interface to OBS, cropping and scaling to get close to the 4:3 source image.
