Day 25 - Hexagons
AEDs in Berlin
Cardiovascular diseases are the primary cause of death in Germany and Berlin. Early defibrillation with AEDs significantly increases survival rates, but they are not available everywhere. According to the current ERC (European Resuscitation Council) guidelines there should be at least 2 AEDs per km². According to a Germany-wide cataster, this is not the case is most of Berlin (areas covered by forest and greens is greyed out).
Day 24 - Places and their names
The two Chinas
Watching a documentary about the US and Abya Yala (Latin America), they mentioned the growing influence of China (vs Taiwan) around the '70s in South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Indeed, very visible!
The documentary I can also recommend, though it's really not about Taiwan: https://www.arte.tv/en/videos/RC-026839/dictatorships-drugs-violence-latin-america-and-the-usa/
Day 20 - Water
Garbage patches in the oceans
NOAA has done fascinating experiments and visualisations based on thousands of relatively cheap plastic buoys they released and tracked. The positions of bouys over time indicate patches in the oceans where plastic waste drifts to and accumulates.
Day 19 - Projections
Arctic in the focus - temperatures of August 2025, when new records were reached in large parts of Siberia
Day 13 - 10 minute map
Day 12 - Map from 2125
In this case, a map from 2100: How much longer summers are projected to become
Day 11 - Minimal
Some work in progress for another day's map / accidental minimalist plot that i somehow like. Green areas in Berlin as per corine land cover.
Day 10 - Air
CO² emissions as a 3d-rendered layer floating above the earth's surface. I'm not happy with how it turned out but sharing these first blender experiments of mine nevertheless 😅 The idea to visualize satellite observed CO² emissions was in part motivated by Trump's fabulous idea to decomission CO² sensing satellites. 🙄
