Unrest has broken out in the regions of Kurdistan that are occupied by the Turkish government. People are protesting the decision of the ruling AKP party, the party of president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to give the post of mayor of the city of Wan to its own candidate, despite the fact that the AKP candidate lost the election. This decision, and the widespread state violence with which it has been imposed, illustrates how Turkish democracy is a form of autocracy.
