I really wish everyone would stop making fun of the people they don't like based on their physical appearance.

We really need to collectively grow up from this high-school bully mindset.

When you use appearance instead of ideas and behaviors to criticize someone, even someone deserving mockery, you are also shooting at everyone who might look like them, even the ones that might be incredibly good people.

There is more than enough content to talk against when it comes to the tyrants that currently surround us. Talk against their ideas, their words, and their actions. Be relentless for that. But their physical appearance is irrelevant to their moral deficiencies.

Mock their words, but not their looks.

I have obtained TSA pre-check with my correct gender marker on my passport!

The Clear employee who helped me was very nice, I got some queer / trans / non-binary vibes from them.

I got my passport before the anti-trans U.S. executive order. I knew the guidance from TSA is that my passport is valid until it expires, but I wasn't sure whether they would allow me to get TSA pre-check with it.

I hope this helps other trans folks. Please boost!

If you dislike the state of Firefox, please recognize that part of the way it got there was by becoming dependent on the gravy train from Google.

It will still be years before it’s usable, but one thing you could consider is to help fund https://servo.org — it’s a fully independent rendering engine with some really great next-generation tech that is going to make the web a more secure, and a very large % of its contributor base comes from a worker cooperative’s members who happen to be some of the finest minds in browser technology.

The project is flourishing, and you can help it continue to chug along and even accelerate. There’s no telling if it’ll definitely become a full alternative to the current triad of chrome/safari/firefox, but we won’t find out if we don’t try. The future is what we make it.

Servo aims to empower developers with a lightweight, high-performance alternative for embedding web technologies in applications.

Servo is a web rendering engine written in Rust, with WebGL and WebGPU support, and adaptable to desktop, mobile, and embedded applications.

Anyone know how to contact the DuckDuckGo Crawler team? 'cause I've recorded them indexing pages that are:

Only linked to with "nofollow"
AND
Listed as "disallow" in my robots.txt

This gets you autoblackholed on my server, and is just generally skeevy.

Kind of a corollary (that I've articulated before, but perhaps not here): It is not possible to be so smart that you can't deceive yourself.

This becomes a trap because so many people who perceive themselves as smart think they are proof against self deception.

Observation: People who believe in meritocracy and see themselves as high in the hierarchy conclude that they're smarter, better than others. This hubris leads to them thinking they are immune to grifters, which then, ironically, results in them being more vulnerable to grifters.

This is why so so so many of the SV royalty are so so gullible.

Starting January 1, wage theft in Australia becomes a criminal offence! Bosses who deliberately underpay workers could face 10 years in jail and fines up to $1.65 million.
This landmark law follows years of scandals involving major employers like #Woolworths, #Qantas, #7Eleven, and the ABC.

Australian bosses on notice as 'deliberate' wage theft becomes a crime

Australian bosses could go to jail for up to 10 years and be slapped with a $1.65 million fine if they "deliberately" underpay their workers, as part of new laws that take effect on January 1.

Being able to use ranked choice to vote for president was very satisfying.

Has anyone heard of anyone playing with a truly peer to peer git?

git over ipfs exists, but is quite limited as it integrates in a very coarse way, via the filesystem and http.

The thought that came to mind, was distributing git objects via a DHT. It seems like an obvious match -- any content address store maps well. There are, of course, other challenges, like branches and tags, which are accessed via symbolic names and thus need some alternative means of distribution (and validation -- signing is obviously part of the solution).

(some will ask why one would even consider messing with git, and suggest that a whole new dvcs should be made. and fair, if one actually exists, I'd be very interested in learning about it...)

Being unexpectedly out of work is a mixed bag for me — no surprise, I have a lot of projects that could use the attention. But it's also a tough job market, especially for a neuroatypical person at the staff+ level.
