Still figuring out how to use this.
@stacksmashing new esolang just dropped
@pluralistic important distinction, thanks for clarifying!
@pluralistic From what I can tell, anti-circumvention laws seem to be required by the WIPO Copyright Treaty. I feel like campaigning to amend that treaty could open the door to repealing anti-circumvention everywhere rather than on a country by country basis. (Personally with how much IP law has been abused by megacorps I would rather see it all torn down but I’ll take what I can get).
@RickiTarr My high school math teacher would give us pre-recorded lessons as “homework” (so, less than an hour by definition) and then have us do exercises for the whole class while he walked around helping whoever needed it. I still think that was the best format for learning I’ve ever experienced.
@shoq we need the PewDiePie "arch btw" video moment
@rojun @brenttoderian.bsky.social sure, correlation does not necessarily imply causation, but I'd be very surprised if it wasn't one of the factors, and I'm inclined to trust the quoted traffic engineer's view on this... I would also challenge that and say it probably increases awareness by forcing you to pay attention to what speed you're driving at.
@rojun @brenttoderian.bsky.social I'm sure I must be misreading this. Are you implying that you'll accept a few more deaths if it means keeping up with the speed limit is less "hassle"? Surely not
@guust @tknarr @jargoggles @pluralistic not if you also invest the 10 you get every year. Then it's really down to the specifics of your expected interest and etc. It's also rarely as simple as 100 vs 700 and people rarely stick with one company for 70 years. Seems like there's too much nuance to give sweeping business advice one way or another, but caring about your customers sure does seem like the more decent thing to do.
@mattwilcox not entirely true... The physics clock runs faster than the rendering, so there is in fact stuff happening between the frames. But if a game state is calculated and there's no frame rendered to see it, did it ever really happen?
@alice I genuinely believe changing bedsheets and lying on fresh sheets has one of the highest "displeasure of doing an activity to pleasure of that activity being done" ratios of pretty much anything, so that's a no brainer.
