Local folk, do you have recommendations for eye doctors? I have been going to Clarkson near me since we moved in and I just... don't really like it. So this year I'd like to try a different place for exam and prescription.

I am going to try to get prescription shop glasses :)

Glad to see another (small) wave of folks leaving substack :).

South Korea has sentenced their insurrectionist ex-president Yoon to life imprisonment, and his enabling ministers between 10 and 30 years, depending. He already faced 5 years for interfering with the investigation.

Admirable. The death penalty is still technically available and was the other sentencing option but has been unused since 1997.

Anyway, it was nice to not have to rush him to the vet ER and just be able to monitor the situation in relative calm.

Nice work, animal poison control hotline.

So Dexter, the dingo, jumped up on the table as we were clearing up from dinner and snagged two advil tablets from the placemat

Ibuprofen is seriously toxic (fatal, even) to dogs, so we panicked a little bit but fortunately he did not eat more than half of one of the tablets before deciding they were gross.

Called the ASPCA poison hotline, which was $110 but! it was worth it. They were very thorough and we calculated his maximum intake at 11mg/kg, which is below the threshold of major concern.

there are so many 30K+ square foot light industrial spaces available in this area. It's almost like we hollowed out that entire sector of our economy and are unwilling or unable to renovate for smaller scale!

So I looked at MakerWorks, and it seems like a pretty neat space!

But: All of the on-site storage is spoken for for the foreseeable future, so I would have to load-unload all of the material and personal tools (of which I'd need more than a few) on either end of a work session there, which would be a straight killer for productivity.

Alas. Harumph. Desire for a spare garage space somewhere intensifies!

Friends, it is heckin wimdy outside

This is what I've been saying! Amazon's prices are not actually generally better than you can find elsewhere! I saved hundreds last year after cancelling prime, not even including the savings from not having prime!

The only thing they are consistently cheaper at is mass-market books. I long ago decided to prioritize buying books from local booksellers anyways.

Wonderful morning for birds in the backyard feeders/water—a pair of red-bellied woodpeckers, a smaller woodpecker, some goldfinches (!), a cardinal, a bluejay, in addition to the usual suspects.
