Today I visited Derby. Lunch was had at the PepperPot - an award winning two rosette star credited restaurant and after lunch tracks were made for the Derby Theatre to watch the matinée of Midsomer Murders. This was an adaptation of both the book and TV drama that was aired some 30 years ago.
Pictures from L to R. A statue of Queen Victoria - which was located immediately outside the restaurant, and inside of the theatre.
Everything you could possibly want is within a ten minute walk from where I reside - from a pharmacist, newsagents, coffee shop (that sells delicious pies), to a greengrocer. The suburb is served with a good bus route to the "metropolis" and also commands stunning walks through the valley and beyond.
I spent part of my lunch break in Nero's. It's nice to escape from the office and have a read without any distractions.
In the afternoon I visited Cusworth Hall today! In the 1720s it was just an orchard, but by 1740 Wm Wrightson & architect Geo Platt transformed it into a grand estate. They even rerouted a medieval road for those views! You can still see the 1733 iron gate today. 🌳✨
An enjoyable morning was had in the environs of Thurnscoe - discovered a superb antique cum auction house which had an array of strange and macabre oddities.
